Zippered Purses and some different Recycling

I've been busy making some little gifts. Little zippered purses.

Sometimes I line them with new fabrics.

Sometimes I might embroider a monogram on the front and

sometimes I might line them with fabric from a shirt.

Shirt fabric can make for a nice soft and smooth lining.

Then a little while ago, a friend of my daughter, broke her gorgeous umbrella and was going to throw it away. I loved the pattern, so I asked if I could have it, and told the girls I'd make them something from it.(Didn't think to take pictures until it was too late)

I unpicked it from the broken frame, washed it in the machine, and then carefully ironed it with my applique mat ( I was a bit worried it might melt ). Then after careful experimentation I discovered I could iron it on low heat.

So then I used it to line two zippered purses for the girls. They will be great for makeup as the liner is waterproof and will wash well.
I hope they like them.

So there you have it, a new use for broken umbrellas. Don't throw it away if the fabric is good, recycle it and keep using it.

Those are fabulous. I love the way you have used the umbrella. I have a broken one sitting on the floor of my car ready to go in the bin....Now I can reuse it.

That is a fabulous idea for umbrellas!! And it is good to know that it didn't melt because I was wondering about that :)
